Financial Support & Scholarship

Wavemakers wants to maximize the potential for all qualified students to succeed.

Wavemakers is supported by the Government of Canada through the Innovative Work-Integrated Learning Program. This support allows Wavemakers to offer Canadian students* the chance to win a $1500 scholarship and access financial support. Eligibility rules and guidelines are outlined below.

*Canadian students include: a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or under Protected Status (Refugee).

Financial Support

Canadian students are eligible for up to $200 in financial support to benefit the learning experience. You can apply for reimbursement of up to $200 of expenses relating to the program like:

  • Child Care 

  • Internet 

  • Hardware or software, i.e. Microphone, monitor, laptop, external memory drive.

Am I eligible? 

  • You must attend a minimum 4 of sessions

  • Purchase date must be during your Wavemakers program

  • Receipts can be submitted up with 4 weeks after you complete the program 

How to apply

  • Please email support@wavemakers.network asking to be enrolled into the Financial Support program. 

  • Within 48 hours you will receive an invitation from DEXT where you can upload your receipt/s. 

  •  Please ensure all receipts clearly specify what the expense is and the date of purchase.

  •  Simply upload the receipt/s, no need to choose payment method, category or anything else.

  • Once approved (every Tuesday & Thursday), you will receive an email from Plooto (payment platform) asking you to accept the funds into a bank account of your choice.

Scholarship

Wavemakers awards one $1,500 scholarship per semester. The winner will be notified by email.

Semester Schedule:

  • Fall: September-December

  • Winter: January-April

  • Summer: May-August

To qualify for the scholarship, you must:

  • Be a Canadian student* enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution

  • Attend the Wavemakers Orientation

  • Attend at least 6 out of 8 in-campus sessions, including all 3 mentor sessions

  • Actively participate in collaborative team project sessions (mentors will track and provide feedback on your engagement).

  • Complete the Student Entry Survey

  • Complete the Student Exit Survey

  • Complete and submit the work-integrated learning project with your team

  • Receive mentor feedback and have at least one credential issued by a mentor
